Press Release - Emerald CBD Revitalisation
Friday, 29th May 2009
Works are set to continue as the CBD Revitalisation project moves into its next phase of construction after reaching key milestones recently.
Central Highlands Regional Council Mayor Peter Maguire said the project is progressing well with the community to see more significant changes over the coming weeks.
"Since completing the Anakie Street intersection we have moved onto the Borilla Street intersection where concreting of the footpaths is well underway," Cr Maguire said.
"Walls for the split level footpaths between Borilla Street and Opal Street are also happening and we expect they will be completed by the end of next week.
"New stormwater pipes to alleviate the localised flooding around the Westpac Bank are beginning to be laid from Egerton Street to the golf course.
Cr Maguire said the public will continue to see more contemporary design improvements as part of the CBD's transformation.
"The shade structures are nearly completed with final touches being made over the next two weeks along with more public art being placed in front of Ray White Real Estate and the Post Office," he said.
"The first stage of the mature tree planting is set to commence on 10 June with the trees arriving over three days.
"With such significant improvements continuing I would like to thank the community for their support and encourage them to take care around the work sites."

Press Release - Mayor - Councillor Peter Maguire
Central Highlands Regional Council produces its first region wide newsletter for residents
Monday, 25th May 2009
Residents of the Central Highlands will start receiving their inaugural copy of Council's first newsletter, the Regional Round Up this week.
“In the resident’s survey we had commissioned last year, the results showed us that people are keen to have information about Council activities and events, and they wanted that information in the form of a newsletter delivered to their homes” said the Mayor, Councillor Peter Maguire. “We’ll also have it posted on our website, so visitors or people interested in the area will also be able to see what we have been doing”.
“We’re planning to get these out every couple of months, and hopefully there will be plenty to keep everybody across the region interested and informed.”
“Some of the smaller towns have their own newsletters, but until now we have not produced a whole of region one. It is an important part of developing the new Council, and people’s relationship with us”, he continued.
It also gives Council an important avenue to provide all ratepayers with information about special projects and activities that are of interest or relevance across the region.
This includes the Recycling project, the All Abilities Playground, Multicultural Festival and Seniors week activities.
The first newsletter provides information about our Councillors, our Australia Day award winners across the region, and other Council news.
Chief Executive Officer, Mr Bryan Ottone, is pleased that Council has made such a strong commitment to communicating with rate payers on a regular basis.
“As well as providing updates on projects and progress on the Corporate Plan, future editions will also include stories about our unique features, whether that’s our small towns, little known points of interest or special events.
“This is a big region, after all, we are about the size of Tasmania, so there is a lot to tell.
We are delighted to have an outlet through the Regional Round Up, where we can show case our region to our residents and visitors.
“We’re also very keen that it reflects the information needs of our residents, so if people have any ideas on items they would like to see in there each issue, we would love to hear from you.”
Feedback will be received through the website www.chrc.qld.gov.au, or by phoning Monica Sidhu on 1300 242 686.
The newsletters will also be available at Council libraries and Customer Service Centres.
