Youth Development

Council recognises that youth are a valuable part of our communities and acts to ensure their needs are identified and responded to. Council is committed to provide opportunities for young people to feel empowered, engaged and celebrated. Councils youth development service, Youthinc, works across the region to provide events and programs that promote social community inclusion.

Youth or young people are defined as being a person between the ages of 10 and 25. According to 2016 Census data youth make up roughly 20% of the total population in Central Highlands.

Councils youth development service organises and funds youth based programs and events across the region throughout the year. The service is also responsible for advocating youth priority areas within council and with other community stakeholders. Some of our initiatives include:

  • Central Highlands Youth Strategy 2018 – 2023
  • National Youth Week
  • Mayoral Student Leaders Summit
  • Blackwater Youthinc Committee
  • Support of school holiday activities
  • Skate Park Events
  • Outdoor Movie Nights
  • Friday Night activities
