National Water Week
18 - 24 October 2009
National Water Week is intiative of the Australian Water Association, in partnership with the National Water Commission and proudly supported by the Central Highlands Regional Council.
During the week the focus is primarily on providing an umbrella for the water sector to engage with the community and promote on water education and literacy. This year's theme 'Smart About Water' provides an opportunity for Central Highlands Regional Council Council to educate the community on the complex issues surrounding long-term water security and diversified water supplies and the achievements of improved water management, awareness and conservation.
This year, CHRC is running a shire-wide colouring-in-competition again that is available to children (3-12yrs) across the Central Highlands Region. The colouring-in competition is an excellent opportunity for children to display their artistic flair and at the same time promote WaterWise awareness at their school. The colour in page is also available for download on the council's website (see link at bottom of page) if you want to get an entry in before the 16th October 2009. Prizes for the winners include a MP3 player (first prize), movie vouchers and much more. There is also an opportunity for interested schools (limited number) to contact council and organise a tour at the Emerald Treatment Plant.
There will also be information stands at your local council office where information, give-aways, WaterWise showerheads and timers will be available to the public during National Water Week.
If you have any questions or require additional information please do not hesitate to contact Johan Du Toit on (07) 4982 8308 or alternatively by email at JDuToit@chrc.qld.gov.au.
Water has many sources, many users, and is everyone's responsibility.
