Australia Day Awards – Selection criteria

Please read the selection criteria for your nomination’s category carefully. All selection criteria must be addressed for the judging to consider your nomination.

  • Citizen of the Year (26 and over)

    Recognising those who have made a noteworthy contribution to our region.

    Selection criteria

    1. Explain how the nominee has made a significant contribution to the community, for how long and the impact this has had.
    2. Explain how they are an inspirational role model, outlining personal attributes and any challenges overcome.
    3. Give details of any significant achievements and volunteer work.
  • Young Citizen of the Year (25 and under)

    Recognising young people who have made a valuable contribution to our region.

    Selection criteria

    1. Explain how the nominee has participated in and contributed to their community, particularly with regards to youth issues.
    2. Explain how they are a positive role model to peers, outlining personal attributes.
    3. Give details of any significant achievements (academic, sporting, cultural, environment, civic responsibility, etc.) and/or community groups they are involved in.
  • Cultural Award (Individual or Group)

    Recognising those who have made a noteworthy contribution to the cultural life of the community or an outstanding achievement in a cultural activity.

    Selection criteria

    1. Explain the level of contribution to local or regional cultural life activities (i.e dance, visual arts, music, theatre, creative writing, etc.).
    2. Give details of any significant achievements.
  • Senior Sportsperson / Administrator of the Year (18 and over)

    Recognising those who have an outstanding record of achievement in their sport or have made a significant contribution to sport as a coach, official or administrator.

    Selection criteria

    1. Give details of the nominee’s sporting career, either on or off the field, and list any significant achievements.
    2. Explain how the nominee has demonstrated a high level of commitment and sportsmanship.
    3. Explain how the nominee’s sporting achievements or actions have contributed to the success of their team, development of their sport and the wider community.
  • Junior Sportsperson of the Year (17 and under)

    Recognising those who have an outstanding record of achievement in their sport or have made a significant contribution to sport as a coach, official or administrator.

    Selection criteria

    1. Give details of the nominee’s sporting career, either on or off the field, and list any significant achievements.
    2. Explain how the nominee has demonstrated a high level of commitment and sportsmanship.
    3. Explain how the nominee’s sporting achievements or actions have contributed to the success of their team, development of their sport and the wider community.
  • Community Event of the Year

    Recognising a community event held in the Central Highlands Regional Council area that has enhanced the profile or our community economically, culturally and socially. 

    Selection Criteria 

    1. Outline the event details, including number of participants, purpose, organisations involved, venue, etc. 
    2. Explain how the event contributed to the community economically, culturally or socially and the ongoing benefits it provided. 
    3. Explain how the event was successful and why.
