State Waste Levy State Waste Levy

As part of shaping more sustainable practices and lessening dependence on landfill, the Queensland Government has introduced a Waste Reduction and Recycling Strategy. As part of this strategy, an Industry Waste Levy is proposed to commence across Queensland on 1st December 2011.

The Industry Waste Levy is an additional charge above any normal gate fee for Commercial & Industrial and Commercial & demolition waste delivered to a disposal facility. The Levy will be applied per tonne of waste disposed to landfill.

Central Highlands Regional Council waste facilities will act as a collection agent of the Levy for the Queensland Government. The Levy is an application of the user-pays principle. The levy does not apply to waste sent for recycling or reprocessing. The more material a business can divert to recycling or resource recovery, the less possible impact the levy will have on the business

Commercial & Industrial and Commercial & demolition businesses will be required to set up a pre-arranged account with Central Highlands Regional Council.
